Visiting Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza

Every journey to Egypt begins or ends in Cairo, and for good reason. On the Giza plateau stand the only surviving wonder of the ancient world — the Great Pyramid of Khufu — together with the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure and the Great Sphinx. A short drive south, the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara shows where pyramid building began around 2670 BC.

Since its full opening in November 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum beside the pyramids displays the complete treasure of Tutankhamun for the first time. In the old city, our guides take you through the Citadel of Saladin, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, Coptic Cairo and the lanes of Khan el-Khalili.

How long to stay in Cairo

Two full days are enough for the pyramids, the museum and Islamic Cairo; a third day lets you add Saqqara, Dahshur or the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and its Royal Mummies Hall.
