A relaxed eight-day trip for travellers over sixty: Egyptologist guides, full board throughout, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Royal Mummies.
Overview
Designed for senior travellers who want to see Egypt properly, without early starts every day or meals to organise. Every visit is led by an Egyptologist, every meal is included (with water at lunch and dinner), and the visa is taken care of before you arrive.
A direct special flight lands you in Aswan for a three-night cruise north to Luxor, with Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, the Valley of the Kings and Karnak. In Cairo there are four nights and two museum days that many tours skip: the Grand Egyptian Museum, with the complete treasure of Tutankhamun, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, home of the Royal Mummies. The Pyramids, Coptic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili complete the programme.
The pace is steady, with time to rest after lunch on most days.
Highlights
Day by day
Landing in Aswan, the southern gateway of ancient Egypt. After meeting our team at the airport you transfer to the ship, which stays moored on the granite-lined riverbank tonight. Dinner and overnight on board.
Morning visits in Aswan: the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the island temple of Philae. After lunch the ship sails north to Kom Ombo, where you visit the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris by evening light.
Early visit to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, reached by horse-drawn carriage. The rest of the day is spent sailing north, through the lock at Esna, with time to read on the sun deck and watch rural Egypt go by. Arrival in Luxor in the evening.
Disembark after breakfast and visit the highlights of Luxor: the Valley of the Kings, the temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak. In the evening, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Cairo and check-in at your hotel.
The day you have been waiting for. Your guide takes you to the plateau of Giza to see the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure up close, then to the panoramic viewpoint where all three line up against the desert. Finish at the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. Afternoon free.
Optional: entry inside a pyramid (extra ticket) or an afternoon at Saqqara and Memphis.
A full, unhurried visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum with an Egyptologist. Begin with the colossal statue of Ramses II in the atrium, climb the Grand Staircase and spend time in the Tutankhamun galleries, where more than five thousand objects from his tomb are displayed together. Lunch included.
Morning at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, where the Royal Mummies Hall holds the pharaohs moved here in the Golden Parade of 2021. In the afternoon, Coptic Cairo and the Hanging Church, then the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Breakfast and, depending on your flight time, a last coffee in the city. Transfer to Cairo airport with assistance for your flight home.

FAQ
Moderate. Most sites involve walking on flat or gently sloping ground for one to two hours. Tombs in the Valley of the Kings have some steps; your guide will tell you in advance and you can always wait outside.
Yes, many of our senior travellers do. Single rooms are available with a supplement, and you will be part of a friendly group throughout.
October to April is the most comfortable period, with warm days and cool evenings. Summer is very hot in Luxor and Aswan, but there are fewer visitors and prices are lower; visits are scheduled early in the morning.
Tipping is part of daily life in Egypt. Your guide will explain the usual amounts for crew, drivers and guides on the first day, so there are no surprises.
