Prices and hours checked on the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities website (egymonuments.gov.eg) in October 2026. They can change; the price at the ticket office or on the official booking site is the one that applies.
What you see on the Giza Plateau
The plateau holds the three pyramids of the 4th Dynasty kings Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the smaller queens’ pyramids, the tombs of officials and family members, and the Great Sphinx beside Khafre’s valley temple. Khufu’s pyramid, the Great Pyramid, was originally about 146.5 metres high and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing.
Tickets
| Ticket (foreign visitors) | Adult | Student |
|---|---|---|
| Giza Plateau area entry | EGP 700 | EGP 350 |
| Inside the Great Pyramid, Khafre or Menkaure, Tomb of Meresankh III | Separate tickets, bought in addition to the area ticket | |
The area ticket lets you walk around the pyramids and see the Sphinx; it does not include going inside any pyramid. Children under six enter free, and students need a valid student card (age limit 24). Photography with a mobile phone is free. Check the current interior prices on egymonuments.gov.eg before you go, because they are revised more often than the area ticket.
Opening hours
The official ticket site lists the plateau from 7:00 with last entry at 16:00 (during Ramadan, 8:00 to a last entry of 15:30). Arrive early: the first two hours are the coolest and the quietest, and the light on the stone is at its best.
How long do you need?
- 2–3 hours: the three pyramids from outside, the panoramic viewpoint and the Sphinx.
- Half a day: add the inside of one pyramid and a camel or horse ride in the desert.
- A full day: combine Giza with the Grand Egyptian Museum, two kilometres away, or with Saqqara and Memphis to the south.
Can you go inside the pyramids?
Yes. Visitors can go inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, and visit the Tomb of Meresankh III, each with its own ticket bought in addition to the Giza Plateau area ticket. Inside a pyramid you walk through long, low and steep passages to a burial chamber; the chambers have no painted decoration. Allow about 20 to 30 minutes for each pyramid, and skip it if you dislike tight or warm spaces: the view of the pyramids from outside is the same either way.
On our Giza Pyramids tours, interior tickets are not included unless the tour page says so. Tell us when you book which pyramid you want to enter and we will plan the time for it.
Practical tips
- Wear closed shoes: the ground is sand and uneven stone. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen in any season.
- The passages inside the pyramids are narrow, steep and warm, and not a good idea if you dislike tight spaces.
- Agree on the price of any camel or horse ride before you get on.
- Keep your ticket until you leave the site; it may be checked again.
