Egyptair flights, a Nile cruise with Abu Simbel and Cairo with lunches and dinners included, so almost every meal and visit is settled before you land.
Overview
For travellers who would rather not think about money once they arrive. This eight-day trip flies with Egyptair, includes domestic flights between Cairo and the Nile Valley, and adds two lunches and two dinners in Cairo to the full board on the cruise.
The route covers the essentials without rushing: Karnak and the Temple of Luxor, the West Bank with the Valley of the Kings, Edfu and Kom Ombo from the river, the island temple of Philae and an early road trip to Abu Simbel. In Cairo you see the Pyramids and the Sphinx, with lunch and dinner included.
Depending on the day you start, the cruise is four nights and Cairo three, or the other way round. The visits are the same either way; only the order changes.
Good to know: on some departure dates the cruise sails from Aswan to Luxor instead, so the order of the visits is reversed. The visits themselves stay the same.
Highlights
Day by day
Welcome to Cairo. Our team meets you inside the terminal, assists with the visa and baggage, and takes you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours: rest after the flight or take a first walk through a city of more than twenty million people.
A guided morning on the Giza plateau: the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the panoramic viewpoint and the Great Sphinx. Lunch at a local restaurant, with time in the afternoon to rest or add an optional visit. Dinner included this evening.
Early flight from Cairo to Luxor and embarkation. In the afternoon, visit the temple complex of Karnak, dedicated to the god Amun, and the Temple of Luxor, beautifully lit as the sun goes down. Dinner and overnight on board.
Crossing to the West Bank, the city of the dead. You visit three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Back on board, the ship passes through the Esna lock and sails on to Edfu.
Optional: sunrise balloon flight over the Theban necropolis.
A horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the most complete temple in Egypt, with its roof and pylon still standing. Lunch while sailing past palm groves and mud-brick villages, then a sunset visit to Kom Ombo, the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris, and its small museum of mummified crocodiles. The ship continues to Aswan.
A very early start (around 04:00) for the road to Abu Simbel, about three and a half hours south through the Nubian desert, with a packed breakfast on the way. Two hours with the colossal temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, rescued from Lake Nasser in the 1960s. Back in Aswan, an afternoon visit to the temple of Philae and the High Dam. Overnight on board.
Breakfast on board and disembarkation. Transfer to Aswan airport for the flight to Cairo, where our team takes you to your hotel. Free evening; Khan el-Khalili and its cafés are a good place to start.
Breakfast and, depending on your flight time, a last coffee in the city. Transfer to Cairo airport with assistance for your flight home.
