On the Nile
A felucca is the traditional wooden sailing boat of the Nile, moved only by the wind. An hour or two on board at sunset is one of the simplest pleasures in Egypt: in Cairo, in Luxor or in Aswan, where the river runs between granite islands. In Aswan you can also cross by motorboat to a Nubian village.
In the air
The hot air balloon over Luxor rises at dawn above the West Bank, with the temples and the Valley of the Kings below. Flights depend on the weather and the authorities’ daily permission.
In the desert
By the pyramids, ride a camel or a quad bike. Further out, the Fayoum has whale fossils in the desert and the waterfalls of Wadi El Rayan, and the White Desert its chalk formations.
