What you will see

• Dahshur: the Bent Pyramid, whose slope changes angle partway up, and the Red Pyramid, both built for King Sneferu, father of Khufu. The Red Pyramid is often described as the first successful smooth-sided pyramid.

Good to know

Dahshur is usually much quieter than Giza, so it is a good place to take photos and enjoy the desert setting without crowds. Four sites make for a full day with drives between them, so start early and bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
