This Abu Simbel day trip from Cairo is a private tour that travels south via Aswan to the two great temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel, near the border with Sudan, and returns to Cairo the same day. It is a long day with an early start, designed for travellers who want to see Abu Simbel without adding nights in the south.

What you will see

  • The Great Temple of Ramses II: cut into the sandstone cliff in the 13th century BC, with four seated colossal statues of the king guarding the entrance.
  • The Small Temple: dedicated to the goddess Hathor and to Nefertari, the king’s great royal wife, with standing statues of the royal couple on its facade.

In the 1960s both temples were cut into blocks and moved to higher ground to save them from the waters of Lake Nasser, created by the Aswan High Dam. Today they are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the setting above the lake is as striking as the temples themselves.

Good to know

The route goes from Cairo to Aswan and then on to Abu Simbel, so most of the day is spent travelling. The exact schedule, meeting point and what is included are confirmed with you when you book.

Bring your passport, as it is needed for travel within Egypt. Pack water, sun protection and a light layer for early-morning and air-conditioned travel. The price shown is per person for a private tour.
