This Nubian Museum and Philae temple tour links Aswan’s two great windows onto the past: a museum devoted to Nubian history and the island Temple of Isis. It lasts about four hours, runs daily, and includes hotel pickup, entry fees and a traditional karkade (hibiscus tea).

What you will see

The Temple of Isis at Philae is one of the most photographed temples in Egypt. Threatened by the waters held back by the dams, it was moved to Agilkia Island, which you reach by a short motorboat ride. Inside you see colonnaded courtyards, pylons decorated with reliefs of the gods and the elegant Kiosk of Trajan by the water.

The Nubian Museum traces the history of Nubia, the land along the Nile south of Aswan, from prehistoric times to the Islamic period. Statues, jewellery, tools and models help you understand the culture of the region and the international campaign that saved its temples from Lake Nasser.

Good to know

  • The tour is private and includes transfers in an air-conditioned vehicle.
  • Bottled water and a karkade, the deep red hibiscus drink popular in Aswan, are part of the experience.
  • Service charges and taxes are included.
  • Morning visits are usually cooler at the open-air temple.

A compact half day that works well on arrival in Aswan or before boarding a Nile cruise.
